Collection: Peridot

Peridot is the gem variety of olivine, a mineral often found in volcanic rocks called basalts. It derives its beautiful green colour from its iron content, with deep olive green being the most desirable and popular shade. Peridot has been prized for centuries and has been featured in jewellery dating back to ancient Egypt, where it was referred to as “the gem of the sun”. While the origin of its name is uncertain, some believe that it comes from the Arabic word faridat, meaning “gem”. Peridot also has an extraterrestrial connection: it was found in comet dust brought back by the Stardust robotic space probe in 2005!
